Every High Thing Must Come Down

Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; – 2 Corinthians 10:5

Every high thing must come down

Every stronghold shall be broken

The high places in our lives have to come down so that we can glorify God.  Anything that is a stronghold (place of refuge, security, idol) outside of God has to be broken. Sometimes our own thoughts become strongholds and high places because we put too much emphasis and faith on what we think and what we can do in our own strength instead of depending fully on God. Often times those strongholds are mindsets impregnated by negative thoughts that convince the believer to accept something as unchangeable that is contrary to the will of God. Strongholds will always lead us into isolation.  We will come into hiding and if we’re not careful, we will only have relationships with people who will be a shelter NOT for us to be healed, but for us to practice our stronghold.  Your past, how you think/feel about yourself, inaction about your spiritual walk can all be strongholds.

Strongholds begin with a thought.  A thought becomes a consideration.  A consideration develops into an attitude, which leads to an action. Action repeated becomes a habit, and a habit establishes a power base for the enemy.  God has given us free will to choose which action to take and how to govern ourselves.  Yet when we seek our will over His, that too can become a stronghold because we try to become a god within ourselves. We all have needs but you can’t try to meet those needs outside of God’s will.  Every need you have, God knows about it and He will meet it; in His own time, in His own way.

Are you running toward God or away?  Some people would say that they are doing neither. They are choosing to be neutral.  You can’t be neutral when it comes to God you either choose to move toward Him or you are moving away. God isn’t neutral with you (just think if He was), there is no way you can be neutral with Him.

In order to bring down your stronghold you have to first openly acknowledge what it is. As the saying goes, before the truth can set you free, you need to recognize the lie holding you hostage.  Second, you have to engage using the word of God.  Our warfare is not carnal but spiritual, so you have to use spiritual weaponry. Take every thought captive. What I mean by that is evaluate the thoughts that you are thinking.  Are they constantly negative?  You have to cast them out. Your thoughts have to be in alignment with God’s to ensure the breaking of the stronghold.  When negative thoughts do come to mind, pray and ask God to remove them and replace it with something positive.  Try to see yourself and situation through God’s eyes.  If we come into obedience with God, we will become more like Him therefore bringing down strongholds.
