But If Not…Part 1

But If Not…

“If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and He will deliver us from your majesty’s hand.  But if not, let it be known to you, that we do not serve your god, not will we worship the gold image which you have set up.” Daniel 3:17-18

When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego refused to worship Nebuchadnezzar he not only became angry with them, but he had the furnace turned up to seven times hotter than it had ever been.  The fire was so hot, that the men who threw them in were burned up. The three Hebrew men themselves were untouched and the Lord showed Himself with them while they were walking around in the furnace.  When they came out, they didn’t smell like fire, and no part of them was singed. God had delivered them, just as they proclaimed.  But what if He had not?  What if He decided not to?  Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego were still fully persuaded that even if He didn’t show up, they would still be just fine, their souls would just go on to be with Him in heaven. How many of us can stand as courageous in such a volatile situation as Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego?

They knew that God could deliver them.  They were convinced of His ability.  They knew what He could do.

But if not…
