What Are Your Words Lighting Up?

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.  Psalm 119:105

This scripture speaks to what the words of God are doing for us at all times.  His words guide us on the paths that we need to take. They help us to make the correct decisions. His word provides us with discernment.  When we are dark places and can’t seem to find our way out, His word gives us light to see the way.  Sometimes our decisions lead us down paths that God didn’t intend for us to go, but we need the light of His word to bring us back to the fold.  The Word shows us just how merciful and gracious God is, even when He has to chastise us.  The word of God brings encouragement and gentle correction when needed, but importantly the Word sheds light on His love.  His word sets fire to the spirit inside of us to help us become more like Him.

My question to you is: What are your words lighting up?

The words you speak will always bring light to something.  Do you even consider what they are shedding light on?  Are your words lighting up encouragement in someone else’s life? Are they shedding light on their strengths and the things that they do right?

Most of us are very good at using our words to shed light on the faults in others.  We are so good at telling everyone else what is wrong with them.  That is not a talent. Here’s the thing with that, everyone knows that they have faults.  They don’t need them pointed out to them constantly.  There are enough judges in the world and that is not what God called you to do.  He asked that we love one another. We use our words to light up the things we don’t have, instead of being thankful for the things we do have.

However, it’s not just about other people.  What are your words lighting up in yourself?  Are you focused on your mistakes and the regrets that you have?  Or are you using your words to try to manifest a better future. We can be our own worst enemies sometimes.  I am guilty of it myself.  We tend to focus on all the things that have gone wrong and use that to measure our worthiness or unworthiness. I know it’s hard (at least for me) to try to focus on the good.  Focus on the gifts that you have.  Light up the things that make you happy, light up the love inside of yourself.  Light up your faith in the One who can uplift you when all else fails.
